Descripción

The Büsnauer Wiesental (Büsnau meadow valley) is a protected area to the south-west of Stuttgart in direct proximity to the university campus Stuttgart Vaihingen, the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research and the Pfaffenwald forest. The Wiesental consists of meadows, small streams and ponds, hedges and a few reeds and is the only remaining part of a once much larger meadow landscape.

Even though the area is quite small, the Büsnauer Wiesental can be excellent for a variety of passerine birds that are rather uncommon or rare around the city of Stuttgart. Arrendajo Euroasiático, Mito Común, Reyezuelo Sencillo, Carbonero Palustre, Escribano Cerillo, Zorzal Real, Estornino Pinto and Pico Mediano can be found here throughout the entire year. Carricero Común, Carricero Políglota, Curruca Mosquitera, Reyezuelo Listado, Alcaudón Dorsirrojo and Milano Negro are common to uncommon summer guests. In winter, Zorzal Charlo, Jilguero Lúgano and Picogordo Común can readily be observed, while Camachuelo Común and Bisbita Alpino are uncommon.

With some luck, migration can bring in particular highlights, like Tarabilla Norteña, Collalba Gris or Papamoscas Cerrojillo, as well as Bisbita Pratense and Bisbita Arbóreo.

Though technically not part of the protected area, the nearby Pfaffenwald forest houses many interesting forest birds that can sometimes even be observed around the edges of the area. These include Carbonero Garrapinos, Herrerillo Capuchino, Agateador Euroasiático and Picamaderos Negro. The roost of a Cárabo Común is just at the edge of the forest and well known by local birders.
