Descripción
The Danube oxbow near Tegernheim is a quiet floodplain landscape with still backwaters, shallow channels, reedbeds, wet meadows, shrubs, and riparian woodland, creating a rich mosaic of habitats.
In winter, the Danube near Regensburg hosts resting Serreta Chica and Serreta Grande, along with Silbón Europeo and Porrón Osculado. Porrón Europeo and Porrón Moñudo are also common. Scarcer visitors include Cisne Cantor, Ánsar careto and Ánsar Campestre de la Tundra, and on very rare occasions Ánsar chico. Careful scanning of shrubs may reveal Alcaudón Norteño, while Aguilucho pálido is sometimes seen hunting overhead. From time to time Pigargo Europeo can fly by.
With the first warm days of spring, waders such as Zarapito Real, Aguja Colinegra, Andarríos Grande, and Agachadiza común appear. In April and May, numbers increase and are joined by Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, Águila Pescadora, and Abejero Europeo. From mid-April onward, Charrán Común and Cerceta Carretona become increasingly frequent on the water.
The site is especially attractive for its tranquility, seasonal bird diversity, and excellent opportunities to observe waterbirds and raptors at close range in a natural setting.
