Descripción
Pollardstown Fen is recognised as an internationally important fen ecosystem and many birds breed here. A walk along the boardwalk on an early spring morning is awash with singing birds. Cerceta Común, Zampullín Común, Rascón Europeo, Agachadiza común, Buscarla Pintoja, Carricerín Común and Escribano Palustre all breed on the fen. In the surrounding woodlands, Curruca Capirotada, Mosquitero Común, Mosquitero Musical and Papamoscas Gris all breed and Paloma Zurita have been recorded in the surrounding farmland.
The fen is also the best place in Kildare to see Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental, with the species recorded sporadically in the last number of years. The area is under-birded and there is potential for many more interesting discoveries.
