Zalew Szałe is a good place to observe migrating ducks, such as Silbón Europeo, Ánade rabudo norteño and Cerceta Común. On the reservoir itself, you can spot many species of gulls, divers, and grebes, such as Colimbo Ártico, Gaviota del Caspio and Gaviota Cana, which breeds here. Rarities such as Malvasía Cabeciblanca, Aguja Colipinta and Gavión Hiperbóreo have appeared on the reservoir.
Szałe isn't just a reservoir, it encompasses everything surrounding it. In the surrounding Winiary forest, you can spot interesting species like Picamaderos Negro, Alondra Totovía and Agateador Euroasiático. Avión Zapador and gulls nest readily on the slopes near the reservoir, and in the local fields, you can observe Avefría Europea and Torcecuello Euroasiático.
