Descripción
In 1980 the lake and mountain of Ichkeul were declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites, then converted into a national park covering an area of 12 500 hectares. The vast body of water is the last trace of a chain of freshwater lakes that once stretched across North Africa. Over 200 bird species have been recorded in Ichkeul National Park and 500 plant species. November to February is the best time to visit. Among the birds you can spot in the area are Flamenco Común, Autillo Europeo, Tórtola Europea, Tórtola Senegalesa, Curruca Cabecinegra, Vencejo Real, Vencejo Pálido, Canastera Común, Alcaraván Común, Culebrera Europea, Abubilla común, Abejaruco Europeo, Cernícalo Primilla, Abejero Europeo, Colirrojo Diademado, Malvasía Cabeciblanca, Porrón Pardo and Zarcero Icterino.
