Descripción
Along the lane close to the carpark Gorrión Molinero are quite common, one of the few places in Cheshire. Unusual waterfowl may be found on any of the large lakes, however a telescope is recommended as views can be quite distant. Porrón Europeo, Porrón Osculado, Serreta Grande are likely in winter, Ganso del Nilo can be quite frequent, and if lucky, unusual species such as Ánsar careto or Zampullín Cuellinegro can occasionally show up.
The woods, forest and field hedgerow adjacent to the lakes are a good place to find the common tits and finches. All 3 wood peckers are reported, Pico Picapinos quite frequent, Pito Real occasional, Pico Menor rarely. Large flocks of Pinzón Vulgar can occur, as well as Jilguero Europeo, Verderón Común and an occasional Pinzón Real.

Acre Nook Sand Quarry and Lapwing Hall Pool are located west of Macclesfield. Turn off Holmes Chapel Road onto Lapwing Lane and follow it until reaching a small amount of car parking under trees, the road is a dead end so you cannot go too far. Press a P on the map for directions. From here you can make a there-and-back walk along Acre Nook Silt Lagoon or a loop around Lapwing Hall Pool. A small amount of roadside parking is available on Congleton Road, but access to the footpaths is only via the eastern corner.
