There are numerous car parks around Blagdon Reservoir, and two bird hides. An 8 km circular walk around the lake is possible. See map on the link below.
The chief interest is the easternmost hide looking over the autumn mudflats. Expect Correlimos Común, Aguja Colinegra, Correlimos Tridáctilo, Archibebe Común, Archibebe Claro and plovers. The swampy wooded area by the hide may have Chocha Perdiz and Agachadiza común. Wintering ducks may include Porrón Osculado, Silbón Europeo, Cuchara Común, perhaps Pato Havelda or Zampullín Picogrueso. In stormy winter weather, proximity to the Bristol channel makes this a refuge for windblown seabirds. 177 species have been seen, including rarities such as Falaropo Picofino, Correlimos de Baird, Correlimos de Temminck and Fumarel Común. From Bristol take A38 road south, turn left after ten miles and follow signposts. From Chew Valley lake it is a short journey westward along minor roads. A permit is required, obtainable from Bristol Water, see link below. Ask for combination to gatelocks.
