Messingham Sand Quarries has a tick list of 180 bird species. Two hides available. Reedbeds provide nest sites for Carricero Común, Carricerín Común, Cetia Ruiseñor and Escribano Palustre. Avetoro Común is a regular visitor. Winter wildfowl such as Silbón Europeo, Cuchara Común, Porrón Europeo, Cerceta Común and Ánade friso. In 2001 Garcilla Verde showed up here.

Just south of Scunthorpe and the M180 motorway. Click on the P in the map to get directions. Exit the reserve with care as its a fast straight road. The circular walking route indicated on the map is about 3 km long.
