Descripción
Formerly the site of the New Fancy coal mine which closed in 1944. the old spoil heap now provides great views across the Forest of Dean with a raised viewing area. Good for watching birds of prey soaring above the woodland. The thickly wooded area is managed by the Forestry Commission. Principal attraction is Azor Común courtship display, visible on calm days in March and April. Also possible Halcón Peregrino, Gavilán Común and Cuervo Grande. Telescope essential. Piquitureto Común and Jilguero Lúgano in winter on nearby footpaths. Fallow deer almost anywhere plus the elusive wild boar.
In the car park there is a monument to the miners who lost their lives here.
