Descripción
Shorncote is a 20 hectare reed bed situated in the north western corner of the Cotswold Water Park. Besides reed beds the area consists of wet meadows, small lakes and working quarries (access and views restricted at working quarries) with 2 bird hides overlooking the larger lakes. The reedbeds provide homes and shelter for birds such as Escribano Palustre, Carricerín Común, Carricero Común, Zampullín Común, Rascón Europeo, Agachadiza común and Avetoro Común. Also Otter, Water Vole and many dragonflies can be observed.
Shorncote has attracted a number of migrant and winter rarities including Búho Campestre, Morito Común, Alcaudón Norteño and various waders. This is also a regular area for roosting Estornino Pinto.

Accesso
Park in South Cerney at the Upper-up sports field car park (SU 043 970). Click on the P in the map for directions. From the parking walk along the gravel track through the sports field, across the busy main road and into the wet meadows towards Shorncote. The hides are reached in about 1/2 mile.
