Descripción

The harbour, once an extremely busy fishing port, is now a popular visitor attraction and yacht/boat marina. With fewer fishing boats operating today, the harbour was the UK's third busiest, the amount of Gulls (Laridae) is considerably lower, some birds can be found nesting over a wide area of local rooftops, the curved roof of the National Marine Aquarium is worth checking for roosting/loafing birds.

Most trees and bushes are to be found on the eastern side of the harbour. Both Carricero Común and Mosquitero Bilistado have been found in recent years, in fact during Spring and Autumn with the right weather conditions the area can have passage migrants passing through. Be sure to check the marina walkways for the occasional Vuelvepiedras Común and maybe even Correlimos Oscuro.

Información extra

BE AWARE, the area on the South Western side of the harbour (called The Barbican) can be extremely busy with visitors during the Summer months, car parking can be at a premium, an early start may be needed.

Whilst the harbour is tidal, the East and West piers at it's entrance has a lock gate (pedestrian access open 0600hrs - 2300hrs per day) that controls the depth of water in the inner harbour, this lock gate can remain completely open at certain high tides and was originally constructed in 1993 to protect low lying areas from flooding.
