Descripción
Westwood Dam and Woodland is a hidden gem for birdwatching in Sheffield. The area has a variety of birds of prey including Busardo ratonero, Halcón Peregrino, Cernícalo vulgar, Gavilán Común, Cárabo Común and Mochuelo Europeo. As well as this, the small streams and brooks found within the woodland support Lavandera Cascadeña territories, as well as small numbers of Papamoscas Gris in the summer.
Winter migrants include Zorzal Alirrojo and Zorzal Real, as well as the occasional flock of Ampelis Europeo. Summer sightings include migrant Mosquitero Musical, Curruca Mosquitera, and Mosquitero Común, as well as breeding Chocha Perdiz territories. The open water of Westwood Dam and Reservoir can produce some surprises, including Cisne Cantor in previous years. The woodland supported some of the city's last known pairs of Pico Menor in the early 2000s.
