Bort Meadow Staging Area in Anthony Chabot Regional Park is a great starting place for a birding walk or hike, with a wide array of trails to choose from, of varying lenghts. The primarily hilly terrain encompasses mixed forest of California Bay Laurel and Coast Live Oak, interpersed with coastal chapparal and grassy meadows, and with periodic stands of pine and eucalyptus. The mix of habitats and ridgetop views offer great views of soaring raptors, and opportunities to see and hear birds like Ash-throated Flycatcher, American Kestrel, Wrentit, Acorn Woodpecker, Nuttall's Woodpecker, California Thrasher, California Scrub-Jay Orange-crowned Warbler, Allen's Hummingbird, Spotted Towhee, California Quail, Western Flycatcher, Wilson's Warbler, Purple Finch and much more.

Bort Meadow is situated in Anthony Chabot Regional Park, which lies in Alameda County. Easy access, drive to parking lot off Redwood Road. Click on the P in the map for directions. You can hike for hours in the area. About 10 miles of trails are indicated on the map.
