Description
The Nature reserve Nový rybník is an important breeding site for many reedbed birds such as sinirinta, Luhtakana, rastaskerttunen, ruokokerttunen, rytikerttunen, ruskosuohaukka, Liejukana or pajusirkku. On the pond itself breed many pairs of naurulokki (the only occupied place in Plzensky region), merihanhi, nokikana, sinisorsa and a few pairs of harmaasorsa, punasotka and tukkasotka. In the rural areas and meadows breed pikkulepinkäinen, pensassirkkalintu, luhtakerttunen, pensaskerttu, etelänsatakieli, kiuru and many others.
During the spring migration you can see birds such as pensastasku, mustapäätasku, heinätavi, mustatiira and many other species of waterfowl. In last years Kurki is a regular guest here, especially in spring time. In late summer and autumn there is little water, which is suitable for taivaanvuohi, töyhtöhyyppä, liro and other waders. In winter isolepinkäinen is a regular visitor.
Many birds come to spend a night in the reedbed, especially in the end of summer. It is the best place in the area where to watch kottarainen murmuration (thousands of birds). You can also see haarapääsky and keltavästäräkki.
