Description

Yolyn Am is named after the Bearded Vulture, which is called Yol in Mongolian. Bearded Vultures are easily seen in the Yolyn Am Canyon, as are many other species. It is a dry and rocky area that is part of the Gobi Desert. First you go through an open high valley (2400m above sea level) and then to the rocky canyon. Other species that you can observe include: Upland Buzzard, Isabelline Wheatear, Wallcreeper, Eurasian Black Vulture, Steppe Eagle, Himalayan Griffon, White-winged Snowfinch, Himalayan Beautiful Rosefinch and Golden Eagle.

Yolyn Am is located in the Gurvan Saikhan Mountains of southern Mongolia, within the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park, 60 kilometers southwest of Dalanzadgad, the capital of Ömnögovi Province. Drive up to the entrance of the national park at 2400m, then take an easy hike through an open valley gently descending to the canyon. Many birds already in the upper area.
