Zalew Szałe is a good place to observe migrating ducks, such as haapana, jouhisorsa and tavi. On the reservoir itself, you can spot many species of gulls, divers, and grebes, such as kuikka, aroharmaalokki and kalalokki, which breeds here. Rarities such as valkopääsorsa, punakuiri and isolokki have appeared on the reservoir.
Szałe isn't just a reservoir, it encompasses everything surrounding it. In the surrounding Winiary forest, you can spot interesting species like palokärki, kangaskiuru and puukiipijä. törmäpääsky and gulls nest readily on the slopes near the reservoir, and in the local fields, you can observe töyhtöhyyppä and käenpiika. Zalew Szałe is located directly southeast of Kalisz. The easiest way to park is at one of the nearby parking lots or use public transport (Pokrzywnicka Tama), where city buses run. Press a P on the map for directions. The route shown on the map is about 10 km.
