Description
Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large kapustarinta flocks in winter, with records of amerikankurmitsa and siperiankurmitsa. Passage pikkukuovi and kuovisirri. Winter merisirri. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the pikkutiiras that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.
kaakkuri and amerikanjääkuikka, and occasionally kuikka, can be seen offshore in winter, and jääkuikka has been recorded.
Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included sinirinta, kultarinta and aavikkotasku. pulmunen regular in winter. pikkulepinkäinen and isolepinkäinen have both occurred on passage.

Car park at south end of Boulmer. Can be cycled too. 6 km from Alnmouth rail station. 418 bus calls. Good unpaved paths along coast.
