Description
Cardiff Bay is good for birds all year round. Residents include karikukko, mustaleppälintu, luotokirvinen and isokoskelo. The first can be seen on the green walkways in groups, whilst the rest can be seen basking on the rocky edges.
törmäpääsky, räystäspääsky and tervapääsky can all be seen in summer. räystäspääsky nest in ready-made boxes under the eaves of houses by the roundabout barrage entrance. törmäpääsky nest in the walls of the bay.
meriharakka can be seen on the barrage all year round, as well as punajalkaviklo. viherpeippo is another resident around the bay. When the tide goes out, many species, such as ristisorsa can be seen feeding.
Winter visitors include pikkulokki. However, check sightings before going as they tend to move around a lot. Finally, rarities include mustakaulauikku, alli and amerikantukkasotka.

Easy accessible from Cardiff. Plenty of parking areas available. Click on a P in the map for directions. Walking is possible from Penarth to Barrage. Walking is the best way to explore the area.
