Description
On the eastern edge of Carnoustie lies the village of Westhaven. It has a tiny tidal natural harbour, a beach, mudflats, sandblast and a rocky coastline with river outflow. Good for migrants, seabirds, gulls, terns and waders. suosirri, kuovisirri and pikkusirri are regular here. High tide is best avoided (see a link to the tide table below).
The area is year round of interest but best late summer and autumn. Best place in county to see ruusutiira (Aug/Sept) and a good nos for pikkulokki from late summer onwards.
