Description
The Pallieterpolder is a wetland and reed marsh along the river Beneden-Nete where you'll find a variety of duck species in the numerous ponds, including: Fuligule morillon, Fuligule milouin, Sarcelle d'été and in winter Sarcelle d'hiver and Canard siffleur. The area is also rich in wading birds in spring and summer, such as: Chevalier arlequin, Chevalier aboyeur, Vanneau huppé and Chevalier gambette. Also you can spot many reed birds like Rousserolle effarvatte, Phragmite des joncs, Panure à moustaches, Rousserolle turdoïde, Gorgebleue à miroir and Bruant des roseaux, and also Tarier des prés and Tarier pâtre.
Occasionally a few shy species appear along the reed edges, such as Râle d'eau, Marouette ponctuée and Butor étoilé. Recently also Blongios nain returned as a breeding bird. You can also expect Faucon pèlerin, Faucon crécerelle, Buse variable and Busard des roseaux in the area. There is also a nice variety of gulls and terns throughout the seasons, so you have a chance of seeing Goéland leucophée, Mouette rieuse, Goéland pontique, Goéland brun and Goéland argenté, Guifette noire, Sterne pierregarin and with some luck even Guifette moustac. In short, a nice birding area with a great variety of birds.

Nederlands: De Pallieterpolder ligt aan de rand van de binnenstad Lier langs de Beneden-Nete. Het is oorspronkelijk ingericht als overstromingsgebied maar is uitgegroeid tot een vogelparadijs. Het is een rietmoeras gebied waar je op de vele plasjes verschillende leuke eendensoorten vind als: Fuligule morillon, Fuligule milouin, Sarcelle d'été en in de winter Sarcelle d'hiver en Canard siffleur. Het gebied is ook in de lente en zomer rijk aan steltlopers als: Chevalier arlequin, Chevalier aboyeur, Vanneau huppé en Chevalier gambette. Ook kun je er veel zangvogels als Rousserolle effarvatte, Phragmite des joncs, Panure à moustaches, Rousserolle turdoïde, Gorgebleue à miroir en Bruant des roseaux in het riet vinden, en verder ook Tarier des prés en Tarier pâtre.
Langs de rietkanten verschijnen af en toe ook een paar mysterieuze soorten als Râle d'eau, Marouette ponctuée en Butor étoilé. Recent broedt ook de Blongios nain terug in het gebied. Je kan ook Faucon pèlerin, Faucon crécerelle, Buse variable en Busard des roseaux in het gebied verwachten. Ook is er een leuke verscheidenheid van meeuwen en sterns doorheen de seizoenen zo maak je hier kans op Goéland leucophée, Mouette rieuse, Goéland pontique, Goéland brun en Goéland argenté, Guifette noire, Sterne pierregarin en af en toe met wat geluk zelfs Guifette moustac. Kortom een heel mooi gebied met een grote verscheidenheid aan vogels.

The Pallieterpolder is located on the edge of Lier's city center and is very accessible: you can walk or cycle along the Beneden-Nete dike. Parking is available on both sides of the area. Press P on the map for directions to a parking spot.
