The Adolpho Ducke Reserve is a protected area near Manaus, covering about 10,000 hectares of primary forest. It is known for its extraordinary biodiversity, hosting thousands of plant species and a wide variety of animals. The reserve is managed by the National Institute of Amazonian Research and serves as a living laboratory that helps scientists understand the complexity of tropical ecosystems.

The reserve is a fantastic place for birdwatching with primary and secondary terra firme forest full of birds. Specialties of the area include White-fronted Manakin, Red-billed Woodcreeper, Spot-winged Antbird, Tawny-bellied Screech-Owl and Rufous Potoo.

Adolpho Ducke Reserve is located about 10 km north of Manaus. Best way to get there is by car or taxi. Most easy way to explore part of the area is to visit the Museu da Amazonia that is on the southern edge of the reserve. Opening hours: daily (except Wednesdays), 8:30 am to 5 pm. Admission tickets R$ 50 (2026). From the museum you can walk seven trails with a total length of 5 km (light and easy) and visit the 42 meters high observation tower.

If you want to dive deeper into the Adolpho Ducke Reserve you generally need to coordinate with the National Institute of Amazonian Research (INPA), which manages the reserve. They organize guided tours and educational visits, often aimed at students, researchers, and nature enthusiasts.
