Description
Bistraka is a small lake between the river Struma and the A3 motorway. Its a great place for Blongios nain in the summer. Other birds you can observe include Aigrette garzette, Cigogne noire, Cigogne blanche, Fuligule milouin, Rossignol philomèle, Busard des roseaux Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, Guêpier d'Europe, Hirondelle de rivage, Pic syriaque and Rousserolle turdoïde. Seasonal migration brings flocks of swallows, wagtails, and warblers, while wintering ducks and geese use the area as resting grounds. The area has also seen rarities like Fuligule nyroca and Faucon kobez.

Bistraka lake is located south of the town of Blagoevgrad. It has easy access next to a road. Press P on the map for directions. You can make a 2,5 km circular walk around the lake and also walk to the dams in the Struma river.
