This wetland habitat and freshwater ecosystem in the Tonle Sap floodplain attracts many birds.
Pearaing Biodiversity Conservation Center is a community-based conservation and birdwatching site located in the Tonle Sap floodplain near Siem Reap. It was established and is maintained through collaboration between local villagers, authorities, and Buddhist monks, with a focus on protecting wetlands and freshwater biodiversity. The area is known for its rich wetland habitat and freshwater ecosystems and is an important place for waterbirds, migratory birds, and wetland biodiversity.
Seasonally, the Pearaing Biodiversity Conservation Centre is inundated by an extensive water body from August to December, after which the area becomes completely dry between January and July.
The wetland landscape changes with the seasonal flooding of Tonle Sap Lake, and this creates an ideal habitat for many bird species.
Birds you can observe include Asian Openbill, Painted Stork, Milky Stork, Lesser Adjutant, Black-headed Ibis, Spot-billed Pelican, Little Cormorant, Black-winged Stilt, Oriental Darter, Indian Spot-billed Duck, Knob-billed Duck, Purple Heron, Bronze-winged Jacana, Blue-tailed Bee-eater and over one hundred additional species. In addition, Indochinese Silvered Langurs and otters are frequently sighted in the area, adding to the richness of the local wildlife.
Pearaing Biodiversity Conservation Center is located near Pearaing village, approximately 13 kilometers southeast of the town of Siem Reap. It is about a 20–30 minutes drive from Siem Reap.
The center offers a half‑day guided bird‑watching tour that includes transfer to and from your accommodation and a boat trip through the wetlands. For information or bookings: Telephone / WhatsApp: +855 89 529 696. Email: pearaing.bio@gmail.com. For more info see the link to the website below.
