Description

Vardzia is a 12th‑century cave monastery complex. The site combines a great site with historical significance with birdwatching. Sittelle de Neumayer are numerous and a walk through the many rooms hacked into the stone face of the valley will result in hearing Serin à front rouge and Monticole bleu. During Spring and Summer months, Martinet à ventre blanc can be seen high above the valley. There are many nests of Hirondelle de rochers and Hirondelle de fenêtre along the rock faces and Perdrix choukar can be heard in the surroundings. During the winter months, Tichodrome échelette can be found on the cliff walls. Cincle plongeur are common along the Kura river.

There is some debate on the occurrence of Sittelle des rochers in this area, so be the first to definitively prove its occurrence! A small lake (1) along the road to Vardzia is good for migrants during Spring migration with Rousserolle isabelle, Lusciniole à moustaches and many Blongios nain.
