Mechower See und Wiesenlandschaft is a scenically beautiful area. Several bird species can be found there that are otherwise very rare in Schleswig-Holstein. There is a lovely hiking trail that can also be used by bicycle. Fauvette épervière, Bruant proyer, Pie-grièche écorcheur, Rousserolle turdoïde, can be observed in the meadows and on the lakeshore. At the pond Grèbe jougris, Sarcelle d'été, and Gorgebleue à miroir. The pond dries up in some years, then there are no water birds.

Mechower See und Wiesenlandschaft is located 25 km south of Lübeck, near the little village of Mechow. Press P on the map for directions. From Mechow, a hiking trail leads past the estate to the lakeshore. The path runs alongside the pond. The trail follows the lakeshore to the far end of the lake. On the other side of the pond is an observation platform, accessible from the local road. Another path leads along the lakeshore in the opposite direction. There is an observation tower there, but it is located quite a distance from the water. The indicated route on the map is about 4 km one way.
