Melaten is the largest cemetery of Cologne. It is a park-like cemetery with many old trees. This green and tranquil environment in the middle of the city attracts many birds. Autour des palombes, Hibou moyen-duc, Chouette hulotte, Pic épeiche, Pic vert and Sittelle torchepot all breed here. Other birds you are likely to spot include Perruche à collier, Grimpereau des jardins, Pigeon ramier, Geai des chênes, Grive musicienne, Mésange à longue queue and Fauvette à tête noire.

Melaten Friedhof is located 3 km west of the city center of Cologne. The opening hours of Melaten Friedhof are 0800 - 17.00. The cemetery is easy accessible from all sides. You can walk from the city or go there by tram. Tram lines 1 and 7, stop right in front of the cemetery, get off at Melaten tram stop (1). If you arrive by car you can park in the streets around the cemetery.
