English: GELOI wetland is a nature reserve established in the centre of a large agricultural area. Amidst the intensive cultivation of grains and artichokes, parts of the original habitats – including natural steppe areas, temporary Mediterranean ponds and maquis shrubland – have been restored. The ponds and restored wetlands provide ideal resting and nesting grounds for many bird species.
The area is home to a significant colony of Collared Pratincole (Rotflügelbrachschwalbe), as well as the Lesser Kestrel (Rötelfalke), the European Roller (Blauracke), the Eurasian Stone-Curlew (Triel), the White Stork (Weissstorch), and, since 2025, the Western Swamphen (Purpurhuhn). The Bonelli’s Eagle (Habichtsadler) is a regular visitor to the area. During migration, various bird species rest in the area; large groups of Northern Lapwings (Kiebitz) and European Golden Plover (Goldregenpfeifer) spend the winter here. Flocks of overwintering birds attract many raptors; the Saker Falcon (Würgfalke), the Peregrine Falcon "calidus" (Wanderfalke "calidus"), the Hen Harrier (Kornweihe) and the Pallid Harrier (Steppenweihe) are regularly spotted. Among passerines, the Richard's Pipit (Spornpieper) and the Red-throated Pipit (Rotkehlpieper) are regular winter visitors.
The bird species checklist within the 200-hectare reserve includes 182 species.

Italiano: GELOI wetland è una riserva naturale creata al centro di una grande area agricola. Tra le coltivazioni intensive di cereali e carciofi sono stati ripristinati parte degli habitat originari, aree steppiche naturali, stagni temporanei mediterranei e macchia mediterranea. Gli stagni e le aree umide ricostituite favoriscono la sosta e nidificazione di molte specie di uccelli.
Nell’area nidifica la pernice di mare, con una importante colonia, il grillaio, la ghiandaia marina, l’occhione, la cicogna bianca e, dal 2025, anche il pollo sultano. L’aquila di Bonelli frequenta regolarmente l’area. Durante il transito migratorio diverse specie di uccelli sostano nell’area, vi svernano grandi gruppi di pavoncelle, pivieri dorati. Gli stormi di uccelli svernanti attirano molti rapaci che svernano al loro seguito; sono regolarmente avvistati il falco sacro, il falco pellegrino “calidus”, l’albanella reale e la pallida. Tra i passeriformi sono svernanti regolari il calandro maggiore e la pispola golarossa.
La check-list delle specie di uccelli conta 182 specie nei soli 200 ha di superficie della riserva.

Geloi can be reached by taking the provincial roads SP35 and SP82 thanks to recent maintenance work.
Once you arrive at the "Casa Geloi" Visitor Centre, you can park your car for free and walk along the paths.

Una volta arrivati al Centro Visite 'Casa Geloi', è possibile parcheggiare l'auto e proseguire a piedi lungo i sentieri.
