Lake Olginate, situated along the course of the Adda River, is a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) of great natural value. It preserves significant stretches of marsh vegetation, peat bogs, and small woodlands, making it an ideal location for birdwatching, particularly for wintering and migratory waterbird species.
The area is known for hosting a variety of waterbirds. Anatids: It is possible to spot the rare Fuligule nyroca, with wintering populations that can exceed 80 individuals. The Fuligule milouin, Harle huppé, Foulque macroule, Sarcelle d'hiver, Marouette ponctuée and Canard chipeau are also common. Other species: The Aigrette garzette, Hirondelle de rochers, Grèbe huppé, Grande Aigrette, Butor étoilé and Blongios nain are regularly reported.

The section of the cycling and pedestrian route connecting Lake Olginate to Lake Garlate and continuing toward Brivio allows you to explore diverse river and lake habitats. The area near the Olginate Dam is another strategic point for observing birds that gather where the water is most turbulent.
