Description
Extending along the Tyrrhenian coast to the north and south of the Cecina River mouth (Northern Tombolo and Southern Tombolo), the reserve covers an area of 405 hectares. The Nature Reserve is predominantly covered by a Stone Pine forest reaching the edge of the beach, where it gives way to sand dunes covered with juniper scrub and shrubs that form a barrier of rare beauty. This is followed by a stretch of mobile dunes extending for approximately 15 km. Of particular interest is the plant species Limonium etruscum, which is found only within this Reserve and in the brackish back-dune environments of the Maremma Park. In addition to several mammals, the birdlife includes over 157 reported species. Among the most important species are Circaète Jean-le-Blanc, Busard des roseaux, Balbuzard pêcheur, Effraie des clochers , Pic vert, Huppe fasciée, Rossignol philomèle, Fauvette mélanocéphale, Rougegorge familier, Fauvette à tête noire, Héron cendré, Grèbe huppé, Héron garde-boeufs, Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, Guêpier d'Europe, Sterne naine and others. The best time for birdwatching is during spring and autumn migrations.

Italiano: La Riserva Tombolo di Cecina è una suggestiva pineta litoranea con dune e fitti boschi, ideale per birdwatcher tra i profumi del mare e della macchia mediterranea. Lungo il litorale tirrenico a Nord e a Sud della foce del fiume Cecina (Tombolo settentrionale e Tombolo meridionale), la riserva occupa una superficie di 405ha. La Riserva Naturale è coperta prevalentemente da una pineta di Pino domestico fino al margine della spiaggia, dove lascia lo spazio a dune di sabbia ricoperte da macchia di ginepri e arbusti che formano una barriera di rara bellezza e poi arenile di dune mobili e si estende per circa 15km. Di particolare interesse è la specie vegetale del Limonium etruscum, presente solo nella Riserva e negli ambienti salmastri retrodunali del Parco della Maremma. Oltre alla presenza di alcuni mammiferi, l'avifauna è presente con oltre 157 specie segnalate. Il periodo migliore per il birdwatching è durante le migrazioni primaverili e autunnali.

Take the Cecina Centro exit from the Aurelia highway and follow signs for Marina di Cecina. At the end of the boulevard, turn left; after one kilometer, you will find the main entrance to the Reserve on your right. The area is vast and features numerous paths with various access points and parking options (visits may require planning by choosing different areas to visit each time). Notable locations include Pietrabianca (coastal dunes) and Gorette (wetland) in the Northern Tombolo, and the Foce del Fosso della Madonna wetland in the Southern Tombolo. Italiano: Uscire a Cecina Centro dalla strada Aurelia, seguire le indicazioni per Marina di Cecina, alla fine del viale girare a sinistra e dopo un Km sulla destra vi è l’ingresso principale della Riserva. L'area è vasta e ricca di sentieri con vari accessi e possibilità di parcheggio (richiede magari visite a tappe scegliendo volta per volta quale area visitare). Si segnalano nel Tombolo settentrionale la Loc. Pietrabianca (duna litoranea) e la Loc. Gorette (area umida); nel Tombolo meridionale l'area umida Foce del fosso della Madonna.
