Description
The reserve is a wetland of high naturalistic interest covering about 500 hectares, created by the damming of the Fine river. It became a Lipu Oasis in 1992 and was later designated as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC) due to its great value in preserving habitats, as well as animal and plant species. More than 180 bird species have been observed here, thanks to the site's importance along the migratory route.
A variety of habitats support a wide range of birdlife. Among the most significant species are: Fuligule milouin, Sarcelle élégante, Canard colvert, Canard siffleur, Grand Cormoran, Bouscarle de Cetti, Rousserolle effarvatte, Rousserolle turdoïde, Guêpier d'Europe, Faucon crécerelle, Buse variable, Busard des roseaux, Effraie des clochers, Chevêche d'Athéna, Grèbe huppé, Bihoreau gris, Aigrette garzette, Blongios nain, Héron pourpré.

Italiano: La Riserva è una zona umida di elevato interesse naturalistico di circa 500ha, nata dallo sbarramento del fiume Fine. Diventa Oasi Lipu nel 1992 e successivamente viene designata come Zona Speciale di Conservazione (ZCS) per il grande valore che ha nella conservazione di habitat e specie animali e vegetali; sono oltre 180 le specie di uccelli osservati grazie anche all'importanza del sito lungo la rotta migratoria.

Riserva naturale Lago di Santa Luce can be reached from the municipality of Santa Luce by taking the SS 206 from Pisa towards Cecina. Then, turn at the junction for Santa Luce onto the SP 51 - Rosignanina. Parking is available outside the oasis, and you can then proceed on foot. Press P on the map for directions to the parking.
Note: In Autumn, Winter and Spring the reserve is open on Saturday and Sunday. In Summer the reserve is open on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. The reserve is open to the public by reservation only, which must be made two days in advance; however, you can explore the 4 km trail independently. Italiano: Si raggiunge l'oasi dal comune di Santa Luce percorrendo la SS 206 da Pisa in direzione Cecina. Si svolta quindi al bivio per Santa Luce sulla SP 51 - Rosignanina. Si parcheggia all'esterno dell'oasi e si procede a piedi.
Autunno / Inverno / Primavera il sabato e la domenica. In estate il giovedì, il sabato e la domenica. La riserva è aperta al pubblico solo su prenotazione con due giorni di anticipo ma nel sentiero (4km) ci si muove in autonomia.
