One of the best areas for birdwatching in Biesbosch National Park. Always many waders, Spatule blanche and ducks to be seen, and this is also the best spot (by far) to see both Pygargue à queue blanche and Balbuzard pêcheur in the entire area (and possibly the entire country of The Netherlands).

Altijd veel steltlopers, Spatule blanche en eenden te zien, en dit is ook verreweg de beste plek om zowel Pygargue à queue blanche als Balbuzard pêcheur te zien in het hele gebied (en mogelijk in heel Nederland).

From Werkendam, just follow the Bandijk for 10 minutes or so (8,8 km) until you reach "the Wassende Maan" (See on the map), recognisable by the small hill (often grazed over by sheep). Park your car at the small carpark just 50 metres ahead of the little gate, on the right of the road (the gate is on the left). Cross the road, go through the gate and climb the small hill. When on top of the hill, go right and find a good place from where you can overlook the water.
Sidenote: don't forget to check the reedbeds on either side of the road near the carpark. In particulair the reeds on the North side of the road are known to hold Butor étoilé.

Nederlands: Volg vanaf Werkendam de Bandijk ongeveer 10 minuten (8,8 km) tot je bij "de Wassende Maan" komt (zie kaart), herkenbaar aan de kleine heuvel (vaak begraasd door schapen). Parkeer je auto op het kleine parkeerterrein 50 meter voor het hekje, aan de rechterkant van de weg (het hek is aan de linkerkant). Steek de weg over, ga door de poort en beklim de kleine heuvel. Als je bovenop de heuvel bent, ga je naar rechts en zoek je een goede plek waar je het water kunt overzien.
Vergeet ook niet de rietvelden aan weerszijden van de weg bij de parkeerplaats te controleren. Met name het riet aan de noordkant van de weg staat bekend als plek van Butor étoilé .
