Description
Foz do Trancão is a salt marsh area on the west bank of the Tagus River. The vegetation consists of shrubs adapted to the environment that shelter large flocks of wintering and resident passerines such as Chardonneret élégant, Serin cini and Pie bavarde. The estuary area itself also occasionally shelters some ducks, and in the adjacent gardens other passerines occur, such as Pipit rousseline. But the most attractive are the waders that feed on the exposed mud of the Tagus River and can be seen in large numbers. The wintering season is the best for observation. Species of interest include Barge à queue noire, Avocette élégante and Flamant rose.
The recently built walkway allows easy and safe access throughout the area, and there are even some pergolas designed for more discreet observation. The area is generally frequented by many people for leisure and sports, especially on days with better weather, weekends and holidays.

A vegetação consiste em espécies de arbustos adaptados ao meio que albergam grandes bandos de passeriformes invernantes e residentes como o Chardonneret élégant, o Serin cini e a Pie bavarde. A zona da foz propriamente dita alberga também alguns anatídeos ocasionalmente e no jardim adjacente ocorrem outros passeriformes como a Pipit rousseline, mas o mais atraente são as limícolas que se alimentam na lama descoberta do rio Tejo que podem ser vistas em grandes números. A época de invernante é a melhor para a observação, algumas espécies de interesse são Barge à queue noire, Avocette élégante, Flamant rose.
O recente passadiço permite um acesso fácil e seguro ao longo da área, havendo inclusive algumas pérgulas destinadas a uma observação mais discreta. O espaço é geralmente procurado por várias pessoas por lazer e desporto, especialmente em dias com melhor tempo, fins-de-semana e feriados.

Foz do Trancão is located north of Lisbon. The best access is immediately south of the bridge over the Trancão River, where there are car parks. Press P on the map for directions. The walkway extends north to Santa Iria da Azoia, and it is also possible to access the route at various points between the two towns, such as Praia dos Pescadores. Public transport is also possible, although inconvenient, with bus lines to Sacavém, including a stop under the A1 motorway access road, which is quite close to the area.

Português: O melhor acesso é imediatamente a Sul da ponte sobre o rio Trancão, onde há parques onde estacionar o automóvel. O passadiço extende-se para Norte até Santa Iria da Azoia, sendo igualmente possível aceder ao percurso em vários pontos entre as duas localidades como na Praia dos Pescadores. De transportes públicos será ainda possível o acesso, embora inconveniente, havendo linhas de autocarro até Sacavem, íncluíndo uma paragem debaixo do acesso à A1 que fica bastante perto da área.
