Park Island is part of the broader Zandvlei Estuary Nature Reserve. A nice 3 km circular walking route leads around the island .
Zandvlei Park Island is a small, nature area inside the Zandvlei Estuary system, the only functioning estuary on the False Bay coast. Park Island forms one of its accessible green pockets and is known for easy walking, birdlife, and a peaceful wetland landscape. You can make a 3 km circular walk along a bird hide and boardwalks. Birds you can see include ducks, herons, terns, gulls, cormorants, kingfishers, African Darter, Red-knobbed Coot, Black-winged Stilt, Three-banded Plover, Water Thick-knee, Southern Fiscal, Karoo Prinia, Levaillant's Cisticola, Lesser Swamp Warbler, Cape Bulbul, Cape Robin-Chat, Cape Weaver and Cape Wagtail.
Park Island is located inside the Zandvlei Estuary, on the southern outskirts of Cape Town. It sits on the eastern side of the estuary near Marina da Gama. The entrance is at the small gate at the end of Park Island Way, just off Prince George Drive. You park in the residential streets right next to the entrance gate. Press P on the map for directions.
Once you pass through the gate, you’re on a quiet loop of paths that circle the island and look out over the estuary. The reserve typically opens in the morning and closes around sunset, and the gate is locked after hours.
