Parc Mon Repos in Geneva offers a serene lakeside retreat with lush greenery, beautiful views of Lake Geneva, and diverse wildlife, nice for a peaceful visit.
Parc Mon Repos is a tranquil park located along the shores of Lake Geneva, featuring manicured gardens, woodland areas, and a scenic lakeside promenade. The park’s mix of habitats provides an ideal environment for a variety of bird species.
In spring and summer, you can spot Canard colvert, Cygne tuberculé, and Grèbe huppé swimming in the lake, while the surrounding trees and shrubs are home to Pouillot véloce, Mésange bleue, Pigeon colombin, and Merle noir. Migratory swallows can often be seen flying overhead.
During autumn and winter, the shore attracts Foulque macroule, Fuligule morillon, and Grèbe castagneux. Râle d'eau and Martin-pêcheur d'Europe are occasionally seen along the lake’s edge.
Particularly during migration periods, you can occasionally see waders on the shore, such as Bécasseau variable, Chevalier guignette or even Tournepierre à collier.
Gulls rest on the rocky outcrop in the water, in winter including Goéland cendré and, in lower numbers, Goéland brun. On windless days, it is also worth bringing a scope and searching the lake area for rare winter visitors: Grèbe esclavon, Macreuse noire and Grèbe jougris are reported quite regularly, and even Plongeon imbrin and Harelde boréale have been spotted from the park.
The peaceful setting, combined with beautiful views of the lake and the Alps, makes Parc Mon Repos an ideal spot for birdwatching and enjoying nature.
Parc Mon Repos is located in the center of Geneva, right on the shores of Lake Geneva, easily accessible by car, public transport, and bike. Parking is available near the park at Parking Mon Repos and surrounding streets, though it can be limited in peak hours. Public Transport: The park is well-connected by public transport. You can take tram line 12 or bus line 6 to Mon Repos or Gare des Eaux-Vives, both a short walk from the park.
The best way to explore Parc Mon Repos is on foot, as it’s a peaceful park with walking paths along the lake and through wooded areas. You could also bring a bike to explore more of the surrounding area. A visit typically lasts around 1 to 2 hours, depending on how much time you want to spend relaxing by the lake or birdwatching.
