Pak Thale is without doubt the premier bird watching site for shorebirds in Thailand. Including the critically endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper.

Pak Thale is internationally recognized for its importance to migratory shorebirds, including the critically endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper. The area is dominated by salt pans and coastal mudflats, which provide crucial feeding and roosting habitats. The site covers about 50 hectares and regularly hosts thousands of water birds comprising around 50 different species during the northern hemisphere winter. The Spoon-billed Sandpiper is most consistently seen between late October and late March.

Accès

The Pak Thale Nature Reserve is located on the coast of the Phetchaburi Province, approximately 125-140 km southwest of Bangkok. Having your own transport (car or motorcycle) is highly recommended for visiting the reserve, as public transport within the immediate area is limited. The salt pans and mudflats that make up the reserve are clearly signposted with an entrance fee for foreigners. Press P on the map for directions.
