Description
Alaçatı Wetland is a lagoon-like intertidal estuary covering approximately 250 acres, which is formed by a natural watercourse flowing north-south from the Kutlu Aktaş Dam to the Aegean Sea. The area abounds in halophiles marshes, dunes and shallow water channels, and a great variety of maquis or scrubland vegetation. The wetland provides feeding, shelter and breeding grounds for many bird species. Flamant rose is seen throughout the year. In addition, bird species such as Tadorne casarca, Chevalier aboyeur, Chevalier gambette, Gravelot à collier interrompu, Bécasseau variable, Combattant varié, Bécasseau minute, Goéland leucophée, Guifette moustac, Guêpier d'Europe, Hirondelle rousseline, Bruant cendrillard, Échasse blanche, Cisticole des joncs and Cigogne noire are some of the other species seen in the area.
