Brixham Harbour is in South Devon sandwiched between Berry Head and Broadsands Beach and Area (see separate entries).
The harbour is home to one of the largest sea fishing ports in the United Kingdom, so it comes as no surprise that the area is good for Gulls. It is North facing and is sheltered by a very long breakwater, which happens to consistently have a population of Bécasseau violet, during the winter months. Torbay just to the North is quite sheltered from the prevailing South West winds, so Gulls/Divers/Grebes/Seaducks and possibly more Pelagic species can often be seen in the area, often at quite close quarters.
The A3022 runs from Paignton/Torquay just to the North, right into the town. There are a number of car parks (fee payable) near the shoreline. One near the Breakwater and Two near the Fish Market. The walk can be circular if you desire, but to walk the whole shoreline it's an out and back walk.
As is usual in seaside locations in the South West during summer the harbour area can get very busy, therefore an early morning visit on a weekday is probably best. During stormy weather (and less visitors) many birds shelter in the lee of the breakwater.
