The Firth of Lorn includes a number of islands, and is noted for the variety of wildlife habitats that are found. In 2005, a large part of the Firth became a Special Area of Conservation. Due to the tidal currents, there is a great diversity of habitats, which means that many birds and marine mammals come to this place. You can see Guillemot à miroir up close in Oban Bay, and Pygargue à queue blanche are often visible on the approach to Mull, either in flight or perched on coastal promontories.
