In Glen Tanar 106 bird species have been seen, passerines and raptors prominent. Aigle royal, Busard Saint-Martin, Épervier d'Europe, Milan royal, Buse variable, Faucon pèlerin, Hibou des marais, Roitelet huppé, Bec-croisé des sapins, Tarin des aulnes, Gobemouche noir. Wildcats possible, also Red Deer, Otter, and Pine Marten. Lagopède d'Écosse and Tétras lyre occur on higher ground, but although formerly a stronghold for Grand Tétras, these have unfortunately now died out.
