Description
Hound Point is a prominent cape jutting into the estuary of the Firth of Forth. The headland forms a natural viewpoint over the Forth, with steep wooded slopes behind it and tidal rocks below. A public coastal path runs right past it. Hound Point is a good place to observe the migration of seabirds. Easterly and northerly winds are usually most productive. The site is well known for spotting skuas, especially during summer and autumn. Labbe parasite are seen most regularly, but Labbe pomarin, Labbe à longue queue and Grand Labbe can also be spotted. Other migratings seabirds that can be observed include Fou de Bassan, Mouette tridactyle, Plongeon catmarin, Mouette pygmée and Mouette de Sabine.
Other birds you can see in the area are Pingouin torda, Guillemot de Troïl, Cormoran huppé, Tadorne de Belon, Eider à duvet, Harle bièvre, Harle huppé, Huîtrier pie, Courlis cendré, Barge rousse, Chevalier gambette and Tournepierre à collier. Cetaceans are seen occasionally at this site, mostly Harbour Porpoises, and more rarely Bottlenose Dolphins.

Hound Point is located 10 miles northwest of Edinburgh, just west of South Queensferry and east of Barnbougle Castle. There is a public and bicycle path to Hound Point. It's more than 3 km to the closest car park.
