Description

Starting from the car park on the B8019 you descend some stairs below the bridge towards the river. Paths go both north and south, but heading south towards the River Tummel gives good views of some interesting waterfalls well worth visiting. Salmon can also be spotted leaping up these natural fish ladders during their spawning season - approximately July to October - and especially in the early morning which aligns well with birding.

The river banks are generally well shaded by mature deciduous trees which attract Pic épeiche, Geai des chênes and even Sittelle torchepot (about on the edge of it's range but frequent here), as well as the usuall tits, thrushes and finches.

There are several good opportunities to get close to the water and with low water there can be shingle banks emerging which would be a good opportunity for close views of Cincle plongeur or Bergeronnette des ruisseaux. Martin-pêcheur d'Europe might also be seen, or at least heard flying past. Balbuzard pêcheur has been reported and apparently nests somewhere in the area.

Accès

Linn of Tummel is located north of Pitlochry. If travelling by car, park at the Garry Bridge on the B8019 about 3 miles north west of Pitlochry. Press P on the map for directions to the parking spot. The paths are well connected to the cycle network and public footpaths so a much longer loop can be made from a base in the town however.

There are no toilets or restaurants on the route but sitting on some rocks near the waterfalls makes for a nice picnic. The paths could also be explored by mountain bike.
