Weston Beach and Westwood Woodland Park Local Nature Reserve are in South East Southampton in South Hampshire.
Weston Beach (also called Weston Hard) and Westwood Woodland Park Local Nature Reserve are on the North Eastern shore of Southampton Water, just East of the mouth of the River Itchen. Weston Beach is a long foreshore of stoney mud, because the area is a deep water port, a visit at low tide or half tide is essential, offshore Macreuse noire, Plongeon imbrin, Grèbe huppé and Harle huppé depending on season, can be present sometimes in small numbers. The muddy beach can hold Bernache cravant, Bécasseau variable, Chevalier gambette, Huîtrier pie, Pluvier argenté and Grand Gravelot, this area can hold a large congregation of Gulls (Laridae), careful checking may produce Mouette pygmée, Goéland bourgmestre and Goéland à ailes blanches. Westwood Woodland Park is managed by the local council and is known for Gobemouche gris, Pic épeiche, Sittelle torchepot, Bouvreuil pivoine, Roitelet triple-bandeau and Grimpereau des bois.
On M27 motorway, leave at junction 8 signed A3024 Southampton East/Hamble, on large roundabout follow signs to Southampton A3024/Hamble/Bursledon Superstore A3025, continue on A3024 (called Bert Betts Way), at next roundabout with large mature trees take second exit signed Woolston A3025/Hamble-le-Rice/Netley Abbey (B3397), continue on this road now called Hamble Lane, at next mini roundabout take second exit signed Woolston A3025/Hamble-le-Rice/ Netley Abbey (B3397), at next mini roundabout take second exit (unsigned) straight ahead, continue on Hamble Lane, turn Right into Portsmouth Road signed Old Netley/Woolston A3025. Continue and turn Left signed Netley Abbey/Household Waste Recycling Centre, at crossroads continue straight ahead into Grange Road, continue and at next junction turn Right into Abbey Hill, continue on Abbey Hill road, road soon becomes Weston Parade and car park is on Left.
