Description
Westwood Dam and Woodland is a hidden gem for birdwatching in Sheffield. The area has a variety of birds of prey including Buse variable, Faucon pèlerin, Faucon crécerelle, Épervier d'Europe, Chouette hulotte and Chevêche d'Athéna. As well as this, the small streams and brooks found within the woodland support Bergeronnette des ruisseaux territories, as well as small numbers of Gobemouche gris in the summer.
Winter migrants include Grive mauvis and Grive litorne, as well as the occasional flock of Jaseur boréal. Summer sightings include migrant Pouillot fitis, Fauvette des jardins, and Pouillot véloce, as well as breeding Bécasse des bois territories. The open water of Westwood Dam and Reservoir can produce some surprises, including Cygne chanteur in previous years. The woodland supported some of the city's last known pairs of Pic épeichette in the early 2000s.

Westwood Dam and Woodland is located directly north of High Green. Press P on the map for directions to a parking. Footpaths allow good access to the woodland and dam throughout the entirety of the year. The circular route shown on the map is about 2 km.
