Description
Lullwater Preserve is a rare decently sized freely accessible nature reserve not too far from downtown Atlanta. Its rich conditions offer habitats for many different kinds of species, from waterbirds to woodpeckers. On the lake, keep an eye out for birds like Wood Duck, Spotted Sandpiper, and Green Heron. During Spring, Chimney Swift soar over the lake and Northern Rough-winged Swallow glide over it. Other birds that are often observed include Belted Kingfisher, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Grey Catbird, Eastern Bluebird, Cedar Waxwing and Pine Warbler.
As a bonus, stay on the lookout for deer and turtles too!

Lullwater Preserve is located about 7 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta on the Emory University campus. You can access the Preserve with one of several Emory shuttles that stop nearby (West entrance), or with MARTA bus 6 (West entrance) and 19 (East entrance). If driving, you will need to park outside of the preserve. Press a P on the map for directions.
The main paths in the park are paved and, for the most part, flat, making it easy to walk and bike.
