Wetland nature reserve with reed marsh and forest that covers an area of 290 acres. It is near the American Dream Mall and contains many unique bird species.
DeKorte Park is mainly a reed marsh, but some sections include crowded, brushy forest and native gardens. In the winter, many species of waterfowl are seen here, such as Ring-necked Ducks, Scaup, Shovelers, Pintails, and more.
The spring brings in a variety of warblers, including Blackburnian Warbler and Prairie Warbler. Summer is the best season at the reserve, with Marsh Wren, Least Bittern, Blue Grosbeak, and more. The fall brings a variety of shorebird species such as Dunlin, Semipalmated Sandpipers, and even Hudsonian Godwits. An abundance of Yellow-rumped Warblers are also prevalent.
Richard W. DeKorte Park is located in Lyndhurst, near the American Dream Mall near Secaucus, New Jersey. The location is not easily accessible by public transit, and is best accessed by car. Press P on the map for directions to the parking.
DeKorte Park does not charge an entry fee. The park is open daily from 7:00 AM to dusk. You should allow 2-3 hours in a visit, as the park is very large and has a large variety of wildlife. DeKorte Park features 3.5 miles of walking paths. The circular walking route shown on the map is about 1.2 mile.
