Description
The area is of great importance for breeding birds of semi-natural grasslands and wetlands. Around 80 species of breeding birds are recorded annually, including Veliki Pozviždač, Vivak, Bijela roda , Mali Gnjurac, Kokošica, Prepelica, Patka Pupčanica, Kržulja, Patka Žličarka, Patka Kreketaljka, Sokol Lastavičar, Kukavica, Modrovoljka, Crnoglavi Batić, Trstenjak cvrkutić (rarely Trstenjak Rogožar and Veliki Trstenjak) and Rusi Svračak. Large flocks of Lisasta Guska use the area during winter, and also a small group of Mala guska from a rewilding project in Sweden has established a "tradition" to visit the area for wintering, starting in 2017. In late winter, the area serves as roosting place for hundreds of Ždral and during spring migration, a great variety of ducks and waders can be encountered. Occasionally, rarities show up (e.g. Čaplja Danguba, Patka Njorka, Siva Štijoka).
