Description
Feuchtgebiet Saerbeck extends northeast of the town of Saerbeck, directly adjacent to the Dortmund-Ems Canal, which flows along its eastern edge. The reserve is approximately 250 hectares in size. Through extensive grassland management, the creation and maintenance of shallow ponds, and rewetting measures, wet and marshy meadows have been able to develop again. The Saerbeck wetland area has developed into a significant breeding area for birds like Vivak and Veliki Pozviždač. During migration, the area serves as a feeding ground for northern waders such as Krivokljuna Prutka, Prutka Migavica, and Pršljivac. Various species of geese, ducks and herons also forage here. In spring and autumn, Sivkasta Bjeloguza and Smeđoglavi Batić can sometimes be observed, as they perch on the pasture fences.
