Description
The Castillo de Mirabel is a historic castle that dates back to the 15th century and is a fine example of medieval military architecture. The castle ruins offer panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and are easily accessible for visitors. Thanks to the favorable thermal conditions, birds of prey frequently pass by, sometimes at eye level. Even on the way up, it's worth pausing frequently to listen for and observe the birds in the trees. Dugorepa Sjenica, Spotless Starling, Modra svraka and Čavka can be spotted here. From the ruins, virtually all the birds of prey found in Monfrague National Park can be seen flying by. Bjeloglavi sup and Sup starješina are particularly common.
A good kilometer to the west is a small reservoir with reed beds; nearby lies the village of Mirabel, with a few houses, gardens, and agricultural land. The ridge is wooded. Various habitats blend together here, making the area attractive to a variety of birds like Prugasti orao, Gavran, Modrokos, Hridna lastavica, Mrka Crvenrepka, Vjetruša, Strnadica Cikavica, Crnoglava Grmuša and Zelena žuna.
