Description
There are numerous car parks around Blagdon Reservoir, and two bird hides. An 8 km circular walk around the lake is possible. See map on the link below.
The chief interest is the easternmost hide looking over the autumn mudflats. Expect Žalar Cirikavac, Crnorepa Muljača, Bijeli Žalar, Crvenonoga Prutka, Krivokljuna Prutka and plovers. The swampy wooded area by the hide may have Šumska šljuka and Šljuka Kokošica. Wintering ducks may include Patka Batoglavica, Zviždara, Patka Žličarka, perhaps Patka ledara or Šarenokljuni gnjurac. In stormy winter weather, proximity to the Bristol channel makes this a refuge for windblown seabirds. 177 species have been seen, including rarities such as Tankokljuna liskonoga, Baird's Sandpiper, Sijedi Žalar and Crna Čigra. Note: A permit is required (see info below).
