Description
Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large Troprsti Zlatar flocks in winter, with records of American Golden Plover and Pacific Golden Plover. Passage Prugasti Pozviždač and Krivokljuni Žalar. Winter Morski žalar. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the Mala Čigras that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.
Crvenogrli Plijenor and Sjeverni plijenor, and occasionally Crnogrli Plijenor, can be seen offshore in winter, and Žutokljuni plijenor has been recorded.
Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Modrovoljka, Žuti Voljić and Desert Wheatear. Bijela strnadica regular in winter. Rusi Svračak and Veliki svračak have both occurred on passage.
